You might wonder why Shiraz is known as the city of culture. Throughout its history it has seen a lot of changes. The city-center itself has been so much under the influence of Islamic culture, especially after the Arab invasion. It was the capital of Iran during the Zand dynasty (1751-1794) and most of its monuments were constructed by Karim Khan Zand, the founder of this dynasty. He was a patron of art and culture, his intention was to revive Shiraz and make it a glorious city again! He was successful in executing his plans and today the Vakil Complex is the achievement of this great man who called himself the advocate (Vakil) of the people. This Complex includes a citadel (Arg of Karim Khan), a grand bazar, a bath, a few gardens, and a mosque.
With all these places to visit the first day will be very intensive. But we will end the day with some drops of wine from the city of wine.
